Dodgers designate Belliard for assignment

The Los Angeles Dodgers have designated infielder Ronnie Belliard for assignment and purchased the contract of outfielder Trent Oeltjen from Triple-A Albuquerque. Belliard, mostly relegated to the bench this year, was batting just .216 with two homers and 19 RBIs. Oeltjen is a 27-year-old Australian who is with his fourth organization.

Dodgers promote Lindsey after 15 years in minors

John Lindsey has finally reached the big leagues after 15 years in the minors. The Los Angeles Dodgers purchased Lindsey's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday. The 33-year-old first baseman spent time in the minors with four organizations. Lindsey won the Pacific Coast League batting title with a .353 average.

Nick Hundley homered and drove in two runs, Tim Stauffer filled in for ailing ace Mat Latos and the NL West leaders beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 on Monday night for their first win since Aug. 25. "You would never have thought that winning one game would be so important," said Mike Adams, who won in relief.

Manny Ramirez not in White Sox starting lineup (SportingNews.com)

Manny Ramirez was not in the Chicago White Sox's starting lineup Tuesday, but he did make an appearance with his new team. Ramirez was on deck when A.J. Pierzynski hit a ninth-inning home run that gave the Sox a road 4-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians. While Pierzynski circled the bases, Ramirez returned to the dugout and didn't hit. Instead, he high-fived teammates to celebrate the homer. Before the game, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen told reporters that Ramirez was tired from a cross-country flight to join his new team.
